We welcome self-funded visiting scholars all year round. Please message cemore@lancaster.ac.uk to introduce yourself, give a brief summary of your work and explain your intended reasons and aims for visiting us to see how we can best accommodate your stay. Visitors incur a bench fee of currently £400 per month for library access, office space and use of services and facilities.

Cemore offered funded visiting fellowships from 2014-2020, hosting a wide range of scholars making outstanding contributions to the mobilities community at the Lancaster and in their ongoing research. Our support of visiting scholars was through a competitive peer reviewed application process, initially through the Cemore Fellowship program, and then through the John Urry Fellowship located in the Department of Sociology. Details of the events they organised and pieces of writing about their research and visits are also available here and below.

CeMoRe Visiting Fellowship 2016-17

We invite applications to our annual CeMoRe visiting fellowships scheme.

We encourage applications from scholars and artists whose research interests resonate with those of CeMoRe. We are especially keen to receive applications from individuals whose work connects to the topic of utopias, dystopias and mobilities. For more information see the Mobile Utopia Project website.

The fellowship must be taken-up between October 2016 and June 2017. The fellow will be awarded a maximum of £2,000 which may be used to cover expenses such as travel, accommodation in Lancaster and expenses associated with research activity during the Fellowship. Please provide an indicative budget in your application detailing the amount of funding you would like to request and how you intend to spend the award.

Fellows will be expected to spend a minimum of 1 calendar month in residence at CeMoRe (this may be split into two shorter visits). You will be expected to collaborate with members of CeMoRE to organise a workshop on the topic of your research, and you will be asked to write a blog about your time at Lancaster.

To apply for the fellowship, please submit a CV with a 1 page covering letter detailing:
