{"id":89,"date":"2015-11-17T09:44:52","date_gmt":"2015-11-17T09:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/cuidar-hub\/?page_id=89"},"modified":"2017-07-19T10:29:22","modified_gmt":"2017-07-19T10:29:22","slug":"aims-objectives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/cuidar\/aims-objectives\/","title":{"rendered":"Aims &#038; objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CUIDAR is a European wide project aiming to enhance the resilience of children, young people and urban societies to disasters and enable disaster responders to meet children and young people\u2019s needs more effectively.<\/p>\n<h2>CUIDAR objectives:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">To better understand the risk perception, disaster needs and capacities of children and young people in urban societies.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">To strengthen children\u2019s understanding of emergencies and the actions they can take to prepare themselves, their families and their communities.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">Increased awareness and understanding amongst disaster responders and policy makers of children and young people\u2019s needs in disasters.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">More effective communication between disaster responders and children and young people in urban contexts.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">Improved disaster management framework, policies and practices that take into account the particular needs of children and young people in urban disasters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What does CUIDAR involve?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">A\u00a0<strong>scoping review\u00a0<\/strong>of existing research and disaster management policies and practices relating to children and young people.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><strong>Dialogues with children and young people\u00a0<\/strong>to understand their perceptions of risk, strengthen their resilience and empower them to communicate their perceptions, priorities and needs in disasters to disaster practitioners.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><strong>Mutual learning exercises\u00a0<\/strong>with children, young people and disaster practitioners to raise awareness and influence local disaster policies and plans to include the particular needs and capacities of children and young people.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\"><strong>National level dialogues with policy makers\u00a0<\/strong>to communicate the needs priorities and capacities of children and young people in disasters and influence policy and practice.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">A\u00a0<strong>European level dialogue\u00a0<\/strong>to share learning from each country&#8217;s initiatives.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;\">Development of a\u00a0<strong>EU framework for engaging with children and young people in disasters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CUIDAR is a European wide project aiming to enhance the resilience of children, young people and urban societies to disasters and enable disaster responders to meet children and young people\u2019s needs more effectively.
