Erin McNally awarded the Postgraduate Excellence in Teaching Prize at this year¡¯s annual British International Studies Association (BISA) conference

PhD student and Security Lancaster member Erin McNally was awarded the Postgraduate Excellence in Teaching Prize at this year’s annual British International Studies Association (BISA) conference.

The prize is awarded in recognition of postgraduate students who have contributed to the positive learning experience of students in International Studies.

The judging panel noted that “Erin’s teaching across a range of International Relations modules makes exemplary use of creative and innovative strategies, including board games, card games, video games and simulation exercises. Erin’s students are extremely appreciative of her efforts to make politics and international studies teaching fun and inclusive”.

Erin is a PhD student based in Global Affairs, whose PhD thesis analyses video games as cultural artefacts in the creation of norms and myths about the future of war. During her PhD, she has taught on various Part I and II modules within PPR/ Global Affairs and has worked as an internship coordinator for the Richardson Institute for Peace Studies.

On receiving the award, Erin said, “to have the opportunity to share my passion for the discipline through teaching has been a highlight of my PhD experience, and for my commitment to creating enjoyable and inclusive spaces to be recognised by BISA is beyond a delight”.
