Code of Conduct

The MARS Annual Symposium aims to foster open, rigorous and constructive academic exchange in an environment that supports respectful dialogue, intellectual curiosity and professional conduct.

Robust discussion and scholarly debate are encouraged but all interactions should be conducted in a respectful and collegiate manner.

We ask all attendees to:

Be inclusive. Use welcoming and inclusive language, respect others' names and pronouns, and be mindful of different experiences, perspectives and circumstances. Participants are expected to engage with one another respectfully and refrain from discriminatory, exclusionary, or offensive language or behaviour.

Respect and listen to each other’s views. If you disagree with someone, challenge and discuss their ideas, not the individual. Aggression, intimidation and elitism are not welcome.

Don't harass people. Unwanted sexual attention, inappropriate language or persistent unwanted communication can constitute harassment, even if this wasn’t intended.

Respect confidentiality and privacy. Don’t share content, photographs, recordings or discussions from the symposium without the prior permission of those involved. This includes recordings of the event, material shared by presenters, images and details of discussions during symposium activities. If you are sharing information about MARS activities publicly, do not identify attendees or tag individuals on social media without their prior consent.

Don’t use personal data. This includes contact details of any person for any purpose other than which it was originally shared without gaining their consent in advance.

If you experience or observe behaviour that makes you or others feel unsafe or unwelcome, please contact the conference organisers who will endeavour to address and resolve the matter discreetly and in confidence.

Above all, we want everyone to have a great time, be included and treated with respect.
